• Sterile objects remain sterile when touched by other sterile objects
• Only sterile objects are to be placed within the sterile field
• Sterile objects/fields should be kept in view
• Items held below waist level = unsterile
• Prolonged exposure to air leads to contamination
• Avoid wicking (sterile objects coming into contact with wet surfaces)
• Edges of sterile field = contaminated
• Fluid flows in direction of gravity
