Legal responsibilities under Workplace Health & Safety Act 2011
Ensure work and work area is safe, comply with partner’s WHS policies, reports hazards/incidents
Advise convenor if - you feel unsafe, you did not have a safety induction, an incident occurs
PACE governance and guidelines
Complete appropriate health checks
Take necessary precautions
Abide by host organisation rules and procedures

Partner organisation - design a sufficient activity, nominate a supervisor, provide resources, provide orientation, give WHS information to university
Unit convenor - assess info from partner organisation, work with partner org to minimise risks

Identifying risks
Identify
- hazards are things that have potential for harm, risks are probability such harm may happen
- hazard categories - physical, ergonomic, psychosocial, biological, chemical, electrical, mechanical
Assess
- likelihood X consequences
Control
- hierarchy - eliminate hazard, substitute hazard, isolate hazard, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE
Review
How to respond to an emergency
Remove yourself from danger > call 000 > speak to host supervisor (if possible)
If in office hours > contact unit convenor or PACE manager
If out of office hours > call campus security
If not an emergency > speak to host supervisor or unit convenor
If distressed, it is crucial to talk to someone
Health and safety
On campus - understand ROAR reporting, know where first aid kits are, know where emergency exits are
Off campus - receive safety induction (incident reporting, first aid, evacuation, etc.)
Bullying and harrassment
Bullying - repeated unreasonable behaviour (intimidation, offending, humiliation)
Harassment - any behaviour that is unwelcome, abusive, threatening
Unlawful discrimination - treating someone unfairly due to race, colour, ethnicity, age, disability etc.
