Q

What are coordinational losses in faulty processes?

A

Tactics
Strategies
Communication
Interaction required in sport

17
Q

What are motivational losses in faulty processes?

A

Social loafing
Ringelmann effect
Too much/ little arousal
Loss of concentration and effort
Loss of motivation
Feeling undervalued

18
Q

What’s the ringelmann effect?

A

The group performance decreases with increased group size. Thus in a tug of war, the bigger the team the lower individual effort. Particularly if the performer doesn’t feel valued

19
Q

What’s social loafing?

A

The individual loss of motivation due to a lack of performance identification. The performer feels undervalued and therefore performs with less motivation
Take easy options
Limited contributions

20

*Establish clearly defined roles
*Acknowledge contributions

*Provide social opportunities

21

*Reduce the chances of coordination losses
*Increase skill and fitness level
*Provide motivational incentives
*Set realistic goals

22
Q

How do you overcome social loafing?

A

*Recognise contributions
*Provide responsibility
*Set realistic goals
*Avoid situations where social loafing could occur

23
Q

What are characteristics of a team?

A

Collective identity
Interaction
Communication
Shared vision or goal

24

Describe a collective identity?

A

*The team can be easily recognised e.g same colour kit
*Team members will feel a strong affiliation to the team and a strong sense of pride
*Important as gives motivation and a strong sense of belonging to the team

25
Describe interaction?
*Team members should operate in their own role successfully and be able to link this role with members of the team *Seen as a way that the team players work together to complete a task *e.g netball and each mark a specific opponent
26
Describe comunication
*To help interaction, the individual players in the team should talk to each other and communicate non-verbally *e.g code signal in rugby
27
Describe a shared goal or vision
*The prospect of achieving success in what often keeps players in the teams and working for each other *All players should want to aim for the same goal to have the maximum motivation
28
What is Carron's ante cedents? And describe each of the factors and how they affect cohesion
Things that must be in place for cohesion to be effective *Group size/ length of time together Bigger group = longer to learn each others roles, less productivity, larger chance of social loafing and ringleman, less cohesion if mixed age and gender, form cliques *Leadership factors Chosen by other, get on with team? personality? relate to group members? *Team factors more success= more cohesion, longer together= more cohesion, more motivated= more cohesion *Personal factors More cohesion if same values, oppinions, happy with individual role
