a sensory experience without any stimuli. things aren’t there
formal thought disorder
state of highly disorganized thinking
catatonia
group of disorganized behaviors that reflect an extreme lack of responsiveness to the outside world
negative thinking
the absence of behaviors that everyone has, ex emotions
restricted affect
a severe reduction or absence of emotional expression
avolition
absence of motivation
prodromal symptoms
milder symptoms prior to an acute phase of the disorder, symptoms are unusual but not psychotic
residual symptoms
symptoms that persist for at least 6 months
social killing hypothesis
psychotic experiences molded by cultural context and the degree of distress is greater in communities that exhibit more judgement towards these occurrences
schizoaffective disorder
schizophrenia but with a mood disorder. mood comes and goes but psychotics stay
schizophreniform disorder
schizophrenia symptoms lasting only a month to 6 months max
brief psychotic episode
sudden onset of symptoms, delusions and hallucinations lasting one month max
delusional disorder
delusions lasting at least 1 month and don’t show any other psychotic elements and doesn’t act oddly
schizotypal personality disorder
personality disorder characterized by pervasive detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression
pathogenic
disease causing exposure to bacterium, virus or other microorganism
phenothiazines
drugs that reduce the functional level of dopamine in the brain and tend to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia
