Conformity
Where people change their beliefs, attitudes, actions, ov perceptions to more closely match those held by groups which they want to belong to
Normative social influence
People conform because they want to be liked and be part of a group
Informational social influence
People conform when they are unsure about what to do or how to behave in a particular situation - to be correct
Compliance
A person changes their public behaviour, the way they act, but not their private beliefs.
Internalisation
A person changes their public behaviour, the way they act, and also their private beliefs
Size of group
Conformity increases with group size, but only up to about 3 people
Unanimity
Conformity drops when just one person in the group disagrees
Difficulty of task
Conformity drops when just one person in the group disagrees
Giving answers in private
Conformity decreases when answers are given privately instead of out loud.
Historical validity
Whether the findings of a study still apply and hold true over time as society and conditions change
