BCF extinguisher serviceability check, operation of use, precautions?

A

Check red plastic disc is intact in rear of handle

Used on all fires held within 60 degrees of vertical and optimum range 1.5-2 metres
1. Push up red catch
2. Squeeze the handle
3. Sweep the flames
4. All burnt non electric material should be soaked in water

-Pbe should be worn
- if used on flight deck oxygen masks should be put on 100%
- don’t allow metal part to contact live wires
- avoid getting too close to fluid fires to reduce risk of scattering or splashing fluid surface
- not effective on combustible metal fires (batteries)

Pbe location, serviceability check, precautions, operation of use?

A

Depends of AC

-Tamper prevention integrity seal intact
- humidity indicator is blue in colour (pink is stink)

-Remove object around head (scarfs, long earrings)
- ensure long hair contained inside neck seal
- don hood promptly after activation
- IF HOOD COLLAPSES GET A NEW ONE
- don’t remove hood near sparks or residual flame due to oxygen sticking to hair

  • snap the two cylinders apart (green light should start flashing inside hood)
  • audible hissing sound and inflation of hood within 2 minutes

A

Oxygen flows for 8-10 minutes

Oxygen available for a minimum of 15 minutes

Flashing red light indicates end of service

  1. Avoid bumping
  2. No ignition sources within 4 metres of equipment
  3. Avoid contact between equipment and oils/grease
  4. Remove make-up before administering
  5. When administering must be secured
  6. Fit carry strap when moving cylinder
  7. Flight deck oxygen must not be used for cabin
