Q

Magnesium

Mechanism of Action

A
  • Competitive antagonist at the hippocampal presynaptic Ca²⁺ channel → reducing calcium-dependent release of neurotransmitters in the CNS (↓ ACh & Glutamate)
  • Reduces hyperalgesia by decreasing central sensitization (NMDA antagonism)
  • Suppresses neuropathic pain and attenuates postoperative pain
  • Potentiates opioid effects
