What did Mendel do

A

In the mid 19th century Mendel carried out breeding experiments on plants
He saw that characteristics in plants were passed on

A

In the late 19th century behaviour of chromosomes during cell division was discovered
In the early 20th century it was discovered that chromosomes and Mendels units behaved in similar ways. units were known as genes were located on chromosomes
In the mid 20th century the structure of DNA was determined which matched with the functional of genes
