A

hypoxemia, acidosis, certain medications

20
Q

How do you do an assessment of the cardio system

A
  • Health Hx
  • Demographic information
  • Fam and genetic history
  • Cultural and social factors
  • Mod and nonmod risk factors
21
Q

What do you collect in a cardiac health hx

A
  • Chest pain/discomfort
  • Pain in other upper body areas
  • SOB/dyspnea
  • Peripheral edea, weight gain and abd distension
  • Palpitations
  • fatigue, dizzy, syncope and LOC
22
Q

What are some past, fam and social Hx to gather

A

  • diet type
  • elimination
  • activity, exercise
  • sleep, rest
  • self concept
  • roles and relationships
  • sexuality and reproduction
  • Coping mechs for stress
23
Q

How to do a physical assessment of the cardio system

A
  • General appearance
  • Skin and extremities
  • Pulse pressure
  • BP
  • Arterial pulses
  • Jugular vein pulsations
  • Heart (I,P,A)
24
Q

What are some labs for the heart

A

Cardiac biomarkers
blood chem
lipid profile
BNP
C-reactive protein

25
What is an electrocardiography
- 12 lead ECG - Requires continuous monitoring
26
What is an exercise stress test
patient walks on the treadmill with intensity progressing, symptoms are monitored and when they reach a target heart rate they stop
27
What is a pharmacologic stress test
uses meds to vasodilate to mimic exercise
28
What is an echocardiography
- Noninvasive ultrasound used to measure ejection fraction, examine size, shape, and motion of heart
29
What is a cardiac catheterization
Invasive, used to diagnose structure and function diseases of the heart and vessels
30
What proceeds a left heart catheterization
a right heart catheterization
31
What is a right heart catheterization
- Pulmonary artery pressure and O2 sats can be obtained, biopsy of myocardial tissue can be obtained
32
What are some nursing interventions with cardiac catheterization
- Observe cath for bleeding and hematoma - Assess peripheral pulses - Assess temp, color, cap refill of affected extremity -Maintain bed rest for 2-6 hrs due to bleeding risk - Tell them to report chest pain or bleeding - Screen for arrythmias
