What are autotrophs?
means self feeding (producer). Creates its own energy without eating anything else.
Makes sugar in the form of glucose, made from water and carbon dioxide. Gets energy to do that from photosynthesis.
Ex: Tree
What is a heterotroph?
Means other feeding (consumer). Multiple types.
Name the types of heterotrophs.
Herbivore: Plant eating only eats plants (Ex: Bugs)
Carnivore: Animal eater only eats meat (wolf)
Omnivore: Will eat either plant or animal (Bear)
Detrivore: Eats the leftovers, scavenger of carcasses (coyote)
What is a decomposer?
Absorbs nutrients from outside, left overs. No mouth. (Ex: fungus).
Are there clear lines in biology?
no
What is cellular respiration?
Using glucose (at night) (Making it during the day, it needs sunlight for that.)
Explain energy flow in an ecosystem (the food chain)
Producer → 1st degree consumer → 2nd degree consumer → 3rd degree consumer → 4th degree consumer
There normally aren’t any more consumers after the 4th degree.
Ex: Algae(pro) → little fish(1) → big fish(2) → seal(3) →shark(4).
What is the food web?
All of the possibilities for a path of energy (an acorn could go to a squirrel or a chipmunk).
a group of at least 2 different types of populations
interacting
community
a community but with Abiodic parts
ecosystem
common ecosystems (share characteristics)
biome
Everywhere there are living things
biosphere
Creators of the same type (species)(Reproductive isolation makes a species)
organisms
made up of just one species (same place and time)
population
