Q

ENG ALL ENGINES FAILURE
or it is recognised that all are engines are failing

A

Quickly decide if there is time for a relight (ALL ENG FAIL QRH) or not (EMER LANDING QRH).

FLY, NAVIGATE, COMMUNICATE:
CPT becomes PF, ensure trajectory, make a MAYDAY.

Start hitting the ECAM if time, then ALL ENG FAIL QRH.
Else, EMER LANDING QRH.

Q

Abnormal slats / flaps configuration

A

Pull speed to keep speed in range of previous flap configuration. Get to a safe height and troubleshoot.

There is a QRH procedure for landing with slats or flaps jammed.

Q

Flight crew incapacitation

A

Takeover and announce “I have control”.
FLY, NAVIGATE, COMMUNICATE
Ensure trajectory, get AP on, and declare a PAN.
“Would the cabin manager report to the flight deck immediately”.

Q

Overspeed recovery

A
  • Keep AP on
  • Judicious use of speed brakes
  • Ensure thrust reducing to idle
  • When speed back below VMO, select a new speed
  • Carefully return the speed brake when appropriate
  • Return any lost automation as appropriate

Q

Rejected takeoff

A

CPT assumes control.
FO calls:
- REV GREEN etc
- DECEL (or No DECEL)
Aircraft stopped and CPT sets park brake.
FO notifies ATC, turns on brake fans and dome light, and gets EMER EVAC QRH ready.
CPT says “Attention! All passengers remain seated and await further instructions!”

Q

Engine failure after V1

A

At V1: rotate
Positive climb, gear up
Pitch initially 12.5°, control yaw for beta target
Trim rudder
Activate autopilot
FLY NAVIGATE COMMUNICATE
- Fly - TOGA
- Navigate - Obstacle Clearance Procedure (OCP)? RNP-AR branch?
- Communicate - PAN if time
400 AGL: ECAM actions to SHUTDOWN
OEI acceleration altitude (delay to complete any turn): stop ECAM, PUSH TO LEVEL OFF, clean up
Trend touching green dot: pull ALT for OP CLB
Speed at green dot: THR MCT + A/THR
Continue ECAM

Assess:
- What are our options? Return to land or divert?
- Fuel
- Landing distance
- Weather
- Operational considerations
Decide
Inform:
- ATC, Cabin crew, Company, pax

Hand over for communication and approach setup.

Q

Engine failure during cruise

A

Set MCT
Disconnect A/THR
Set HDG and pull (maybe)
Pull SPD
Determine OEI recovery altitude and pull
Notify ATC
ECAM actions
3 strategies:
1. Standard - M.78/300kts, V/S when V/S is 500fpm or less, at OEI recovery altitude (PROG), set LRC speed
2. Obstacle - determine drift down ceiling, set lowest possible ALT, set SPD green dot, when clear of obstacle, go to standard strat
3. ETOPS - set speed and altitude on ETOPS plan, V/S when V/S is 500fpm or less, continue at planned speed and level

Q

ROW/ROPS

A

RWY TOO SHORT on final: go around

WET: RWY TOO SHORT on final: go around if runway wet

“BRAKE, MAX BRAKING, MAX BRAKING”: apply max braking and reverse. Same for max reverse callout.

Below 70 kts and no MAX REVERSE red, set thrust to idle and brake as required
