What is a tropical storm?
It is a low pressure spinning strom with high winds and torrential rain
What are the conditions needed for a tropical storm to form and develop?
1)Temperature
2) Air pressure
3) Wind shear
4) Rotation
5) A trigger
What temperature is needed for a tropical storm and why?
Ocean temperatures need to be around 26-27 segrees and at least 50 meters deep as it is the warm water that gives the storm enegry
What does the air pressure need to be for a tropical strom to form and why?
Must be in areas of unsatble air pressure - usually where areas of high pressure and low pressure meet ( converge)
This is so that warm air rises more readily and clouds can from
(the air also has to be hot)
The warm air rises as it is less dense than cold air
What does wind sher need to be like for a tropical storm to form and why?
Winds must be present for the swirling motion to form, but not too stong or the storm will be ripped apart in the early stages
What does roation need to be like for a tropical storm to form and why?
Tropical storms only form around the equator but no less than 5 degrees either side
The coriolis effect is the effect of the earths roation on weather events, and the strom spins because the earth is spining, but there is no coriolis effecta t the equator hense why the storms have to form a certain distance away from it
What does a trigger need to be like for a tropical storm to form and why?
A pre - existing thunderstorm, a spot of very high sea surface temperature or an area of low pressure + other factors can trigger the development of a storm, but it will only ever further develop when the othe factors of roation wind shear air pressure and temperature are present
