- New developments such as East Village are marketed towards young professionals and higher-income groups which puts many long-term residents who may be lower-income households, at greater risk of displacement as many new developments are not affordable for them
- East Village gardens are only accessible to residents and not to the wider community -> may exclude long-term Stratford residents

- Stratford has moved from having an industrial culture to becoming a major retail and leisure hub -> eg. Westfield is one of Europe’s largest shopping centres
- Area rebranded as ‘Olympic London’
- Stratford being designed for outsiders more and more and moving from a place to live to a place to consume
- However, Stratford Centre remains which has rich history, known for its community of skaters and dancers which serves locals -> adjacent to Westfield
