Q

Cranial Nerves and Taste

A

So you taste the food the taste goes into the pore or the taste bud starting action potential which sends the neural impulse to the thalamus, then to the primary gustatory cortex in the brain.

Q

Transduction process for taste

A

similar to hearing. You taste the food, the testant goes into the pore or the taste bud. it starts the action potential process (opening and closing of the ion channels, that’s the sodium, the potassium and the calcium coming in and out) that sends the neural impulse to the thalamus, then to the primary gustatory cortex in the brain. It’s still little psyllis, little hairs that are fluctuating that start the action potential process and send the neural impulse up to the thalamus.
