Transduction Flashcards

(7 cards)

1

Q

Introduction to Sensation and Perception

A

Stimulation converts to sensation through sensory transduction; senses share similarities and differences

Hearing Transduction Process

A

Sound waves undergo transduction into neural impulses at the pinna, then thalamus

Q

Sound Transmission in Ear(transduction)

A

NEURAL IMPULSE Sound waves enter the pinna, then directed through ear canal of about 2.5{cm}with wax, travels through 3 ossicles, wish goes to cochlea (filled with water) the hairs then move then action potential (STIMULOUS) where sodium potassium starts moving (NERVE) then calcium comes in causing a neurotransmitter to travel down the auditory cortex (BRAIN)
99% of the time, those sensations go to our thalamus, which then relays them off to the different parts of our brain which interpret.

Q

Sensory Adaptation and Thresholds

A

Sensory adaptation alters perception thresholds; sound transduction converts waves to neural signals to the brain
