What is an Order?
A communication which conveys instructions from a superior to a subordinate.
What are the three types of orders?
- Operation (OPORD)-5 paragraph before mission
- Fragmentary (FRAGORD)-small modification to OPORD
- Warning (WARNORD)- notify that OPORD is coming
What are the three ways to communicate an order?
Verbal, Written, or signaled
What are the nine characteristics of a good OPLAN or OPORD?
- Simple and direct
- Authoritative expression- through commanders intent
- Positive expression - avoid “no” and “not”
- Avoid qualified directives- avoid vague and ambiguous language (ASAP)
- Possess brevity- use acronyms, refer to manuals, be concise
- Possess clarity- avoid jargon, avoid misunderstandings
- Contain assumptions- helps subordinates understand the logic
- Incorporate flexibility- leave room for adjustments
- Exercise timeliness- send promptly
What is Task Organization?
A temporary grouping of forces designed to accomplish a particular mission.

What is Commander’s intent?
A clear, concise statement of what the force must do and the conditions the force must meet to succeed.
