Carbon fluxes of an urban forest in Moscow
Why?
- 70% of the global GHG emissions from urban areas ⇒ also climate mitigation needs to be strongly addressed in urban areas
- Among the many positive ecosystem services provided by urban forests, the uptake of CO2 is a very important one
- However, there is not a good understanding of the sink strength of such urban forests considering different ecosystems, climate zones, multiple (urban) stressors and many other variables
- Main objective: Quantification of the net ecosystem exchange of an urban forest for a better assessment of its carbon sink strength
