Apply tourniquet and ask PT to make fist

Feel for vein
Ninth step
When you find good vein release tourniquet and clean area with Alcohol

Reapply tourniquet

Anchor vein:
Use thumb to apply pressure and pull down below puncture site
Twelfth step
“Little pinch”
Insert needle at 30 degree angle
Thirteenth step
Insert tube, once blood starts flowing remove tourniquet
Fourteenth step
Use folded gauze to cover removal of the needle and ask pt to hold
Fifteenth step
Remove needle
Engage safety
Dispose
Sixteenth tube
Mix + label tubes in front of PT
Seventeenth step
Ask PT to confirm info on tubes
Last step
Check if pt stopped bleeding
Give bandaid.
