Q

What is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and which type do plants have?

A

A prokaryotic cell is a cell that does not have a bound nucleus. The difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells is subcellular units. Prokaryotic cells do not contain subcellular units but eukaryotic cells are made up subcellular units called organelles. Plants contain eukaryotic cells.

Q

Cell walls are made up of cellulose, pectic substances, lignins and are nonliving.

17
Q

What are the strands of cytoplasmic material that connect individual cells called?

A

Plasmodesmata

18
Q

_________ are closely associated with cellulose and give it added strength, as is well demonstrated by wood fibers.

19
Q

List the vegetative parts of a plant.

A

The vegetative parts of a plant include the stem, roots, and the leaves of the plant.

20
Q

List the reproductive parts of a plant.

A

The reproductive parts of the plant include the flower, the fruit, and the seed.

21
Q

Meristematic tissues are regions of actively dividing cells that can differentiate into other tissues and organs.

22
Q

_____________ carries water and dissolved minerals to the rest of the plant.

23
Q

__________ carries sugars and metabolites from the leaves to other parts of the plant.

24
Q

Cutin is a waxy substance covering the epidermis layer and aids in the reduction of water loss.

25
The purpose/function of the root cap is to _________ the actively dividing meristem as it penetrates the soil.
Protect
26
Palisade and spongy mesophyll parenchyma cells are two types of leaf cells that contain chlorophyll.
True
27
Leaves are usually classified as simple (a single leaf) or a compound (one with three or more leaflets).
True
28
Incomplete flowers have the following four parts: sepals, petals, stamens, and pistil.
False ## Footnote Incomplete flowers lack one or more of the four parts of a flower.
29
A fruit is a matured ovary plus associated parts.
True
30
The 3 basic parts of a seed are the embryo, the food storage tissue and the seed coat.
