label the skull bones - see canvas pp diagram:
What are the bones of the jaw?
Mandible = Lower jaw
-Maxilla = upper jaw
Label the tooth - see canvas pp diagrams:
How is the tooth divided?
-crown: outermost layer of enamel; hardest layer of tooth. enamel = surface. dentine = mineralised structure inside enamel.
-neck: cementum = continuity of the enamel. cementum is hard, outermost layer protects the overall structure. dental pulp is B for dental health - contains vessels and nerves.
-root: root canal = where blood & innervation are going to inside of tooth. to supply nutrients + nerve support. alveolar bone = part of alveoli, region on maxilla and mandible where tooth = attached.
Where is the gingiva + what does it contain?
between each of the teeth; full of nerves and blood vessels
What is the crown?
outermost layer of tooth
What is the enamel?
outermost layer of crown
Label the upper and lower teeth + skull - see canvas pp diagram:
How many teeth do we have?
Total 32 teeth
How many of each category of tooth do we have?
Incisors: 8
Canines: 4
Premolars: 8
Molars: 12
Label the upper and lower permanent teeth - see canvas pp diagram:
label the individual teeth - see canvas pp digram:
Label the dental arch - see canvas pp diagram:
Label the upper (maxillary) dental arch and lower (mandibular) dental arch - see canvas pp diagram:
What is the upper dental arc also known as?
upper (maxillary) dental arch
What is the lower dental arc also known as?
lower (mandibular) dental arch
What is the labial part of the dental arch?
facing towards the inner
lips (incisors and canines)
What is the buccal part of the dental arch?
facing towards the cheek
(premolars and molars)
What is the lingual part of the dental arch?
facing towards the tongue
What are the surfaces for mastication within the dental arch?
incisal surfaces (incisors)
occlusal surfaces (molars)
What is the mesial part of the dental arch?
surface on the tooth that
lies closest to the midline.
What is the distal part of the dental arch?
surface of the tooth that
lies further from the midline
What is the main function of the incisors?
cutting food
What do the canines do?
work with premolars to tear the food apart (second step after food is cut)
