Short acting hypnotic agent that acts on the reticular activating system with the brain
Indications
Premedication for tracheal intubation (RSI) or cardioversion
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, L&D
Adverse Effects
Respiratory depression, apnea, dysrhythmias, hypotension, HTN, N/V, involuntary muscle movement
Precautions
May be enhanced when given with other CNS depressants
Dose and Administration
Adult: 0.2-0.6mg/kg IVP over 30-60sec
Pediatric: 0.2-0.4mg/kg IVP
Given over 30-60 sec
