What was the First year plan?
From 1928-32
- was introduced for rapid growth in heavy industry, such as coal, steel and iron
-By 1929 there was only 25 people living in Magnitogsk 3 years later this increased to 250,000
- ‘shock brigades’ were set as an example for being a model worker
-slave labour used to complete large project buildings such as, sea canal project which employd 18,000 prisoners by 1932 during this time 10,000 died
What was the Second year plan?
From 1933-37
- higher target for production and consumer goods and also build defence
- coal production rose but oil production did not
- Moscow and lenigard became developed
What was the Third year plans?
From 1938-41
- more rapid towards arms production and to meet threat of Germany
What was the Fourth year plan?
From 1946-50
- The priority for this year plan was to bring back economic reconversion and reconstruction as quick as possible to pre War levels
- was after War
- this process was difficult to due to the end of the Lend-Lease ( Britian lend sources oto ussr during war which then ended)
- tarde agreements where sighed with the new soviet-dominated goverments of eastern europe
what was the Fifth year plan?
1951-55
-set out achieve continued growth
- due to the chnage in arms expenditure as the military budget increased on year industry growth became less impressive
- living standers in towns started to recover, price redution eased conditions
-recovery in the country side was more slow
what was the aims of the five year plans?
to industralise russia by combining centralised planning with largescale investment, fear of foreign invasion.
What was the problems?
stalin priotitised heavy industry and defence rather then consumption production
- black market increased
-housing conditions were bad and lacked things such as bathhouses
