4
Q

What happens if one satellite seems to offer bad data?

A
Fault detection (FD) only: loss of integrity: use alternate nav aid.
Fault detection and exclusion (FDE): software excludes the satellite no affect on navigation

Q

What’s the difference between a loss of RAIM and a RAIM warning?

A

Loss of RAIM means a GNSS position error can’t be calculated and the level of integrity is not known

A RAIM warning mean the GNSS position error is outside tolerance and the level of integrity is known to be unacceptable.

Single UNS-1C+
26
When initialising the FMS What should you check ?
SCN 802.8 Database expiry Initial position ID with GPS
27
A leg based navigation system has both what ?
A path and a terminator
28
Sequencing to the next leg occurs at the terminator, what may stop this from Happening ?
Manual terminator or GAP, NO LINK
29
What message will you get if sequencing to the next leg is not available ?
Next leg undefined
30
What does RAIM monitor during flight and when will you get a RAIM warning ?
Monitors the spread of positions ( Horizontal integrity limit ) expressed in NM. you get a RAIM warning when HIL>Integrity alarm limit.
31
What does GPS INTEG mean ?
Horizontal integrity limit HIL is unknown or the HIL>alarm limit
32
What do you do about a GPS INTEG ?
GNSS receiver not to be used | Missed approach, or if RNP 1 or RNP 2 routes, use alternate route.
33
What’s BCP accuracy monitoring ?
Monitors actual spread of positions (all sensors) and is the Actual Navigation Performance ANP expressed in Nm
34
What does it mean if ANP>RNP ?
Spread of positions to large for phase of flight and your position is uncertain.
35
What’s the meaning of a position uncertain message ?
Definite GPS INTEG and possible DR mode. | Means that ANP>RNP
36
What’s the meaning of dead reckoning mode (DR) ?
HDG and TAS are the sole Nav sensors.
37
What actions do you take when you get a position uncertain or dead reckoning mode alert ?
Navigate by raw data, not the FMS
38
Sensor priority in terms of degrading quality and priority ?
GNSS, DME/DME/DME, VOR,AIR DATA and AHRS (TAS and HDG)
39
Enroute RNP, IAL and CDI full scale deflection ?
RNP: 2.8 IAL: 1.0 CDI full scale: 5.0
40
Terminal RNP, IAL and CDI full scale deflection ?
RNP: 1.0 IAL: 1.0 CDI full scale: 1.0
41
Approach RNP, IAL and CDI full scale deflection ?
RNP:0.5 IAL:0.3 CDI full scale: 0.3
42
For FMS when is APPR mode active ?
Approach label to end of Approach label
43
When is the FMS in terminal mode ?
Within 30nm of airports at the beginning and end of routes. | Anytime the approach is armed
44
If a SID extends greater than 30nm what must the pilot do ?
Manually enter TERM mode NAV-MENU-NAV DISPLAY (LSK1L) -TERM | Normal mode once the SID is complete
45
When must you manually update the FMS database ?
If today= database expiry day
46
How to manually update the FMS Data base ?
DATA Mode key Line select 1 L:NAV DATA Then NEXT key Line select 1R: activate
47
What to do if you have a power failure of the FMS ?
<7 seconds: auto resumes nothing for you to do From 7 s to 7 mins: power failure screen, must verify current leg and wind > 7 mins: must re initialise, re Aquire GPS position and re enter FPL, fuel, etc
48
What inputs the FMS and what does it output ?
Inputs to the FMS are GNSS,DME,VOR,HDG,TAS,ALT | outputs to the #1 and #2 FGC And then to the EADI and EHSIs
49
When do you get A waypoint alert?
Approaching terminator Steadily on, including the EHSI 15 sec (ENR,TERM) 5 sec (APPR)
50
When will you get a VERT W/P ALERT ?
Approaching the vertical wpt Not EHSI 15 secs
51
How to set FLT NBR ?
FPL-MENU p2- LSK 3 R
52
How to prevent auto-sequencing of waypoints ?
Insert a GAP in the FPL
53
What mode does the autopilot stay in when using command HDG ?
LNAV
54
When’s Pseudo-VOR used ?
When needed to track on a non-FPL radial or bearing.
55
How to define a PVOR course ?
NAV-LSK MNVR-LSK PVOR Reference the fix Define desired track Accept with ENTER
56
How to setup a selected Cross-Track ?
NAV-LSK “MNVR” -LSK “SXTK” Enter desired cross track distance L/R FMS commands 45° intercept of new parallel track path Maintains Crosstrack offset only until next waypoint. Then intercepts next leg
57
How is our VNAV setup ?
Pilot specifies ROD FMS calculates FPA FMS maintains FPA with changing GS,VS
58
When do you get a TOD alert ? And will the aircraft start to descend even if AAS is not set ?
2 mins to go and yes it will
59
Changes to current VNAV leg cause what ?
VNAV disconnect and the aircraft to go into PITCH mode.
60
Level off logic of VNAV ?
At AAS or VNAV target, whichever comes first
61
When would you get an VNAV disconnect ?
GAP/NO LINK / HOLD between you and the VNAV target altitude >12.5 NM off track Any climb segment At approach label > 175’ above pseudo- GS
62
Checking VNAV enroute decent ?
3nm / 1000’ 15,000ft to lose 15×3 = 45 nautical miles descent
