how would you approach a unit?
(full prep)
no none multi stickers
no shore supply plugged in
no ‘not to be moved’ boards in window
how would you enter a unit that had no main air on a 150
due to the crew doors being slam doors, use a T-key (it doesn’t need air) - 150/1
the crew doors are air powered so you would operate the butterfly emptying the air and manually open it - 150/2
what initial checks would you be making when you first enter the cab?
check repair book
parking brake isolation cock (not isolated)
circuit brake not tripped
DRA set
seals in tact
150/2 - gangway door is locked & shut
what is the purpose of the pre-heat button?
to heat the jacket around the engine which in term will heat up the fuel
when the engines have started, what should you check for in the driving cab?
air pressure is building
what are your actions if the main res doesn’t build up?
compressor speed up and check parking brake.
upon re-entry to the cab what are you going to do this time?
check horn, wipers, gsmr test button then do a door test.
how long do the engines run for after taking a key out?
5-15 mins
what coupler is fitted to 150’s
BSI
what is the minimum air pressure for coupling?
5.4 minimum so maps isn’t activated
what would you check before coupling?
no TPWS grids under where train will be, no big dips or gradients, no non multi stickers or bag over coupler.
electrical box covers are up
what is the disposal prededure?
get 10 minutes to dispose of train, must leave it in step 3 , put DRA on, turn all internal lights out and applicable external ones on. any repairs take the slip to dsm to be faxed.
you put key in and AWS fails to sound what is the problem?
could be tripped CB or isolated
when pressing the engine start button it fails to turn what could cause this?
loss of fire integrity
starter battery isolated of dead
engine isolated
local control CB tripped
direction selector not in neutral
what action what you take if the starter motor continues to turn after engine has started? what could cause this fault
shut engine down and probably a faulty starter motor
what would prevent unit from main air res pressure ? how to fix?
leak, isolate main res IC
what does it mean if there’s an engine stop light but the engine is still running?
alternator being faulty
name equipment that would prevent you from taking brake on TW4?
FILL IN BLANK
if the AWS sound will not cancel what will be the cause? and solution ?
parked over a grid, temp isolate and move train
one or more engines revert to idle what are the possible causes of this and what actions?
hydrostatic oil low making engine overheat and revert to idle?
under normal running conditions the battery charge negative fuse has blown or control fuse has blown (positive fuse) - what will happen now and how will you rectify it?
brake application will require assistance and will have to retract electrical connections on bsi coupler to avoid fault transferal
if you attempt to shut engines down from cab and they won’t stop why is this and how to fix?
could be start stop button is broke so will have to isolate engine, possible done by tripping LCCB but can go outside and do it, isolate fuel IC
name all IC in driving cab?
heater IC
wipers
horn
parking brake
where would you isolate brakes on 150?
it’s next to the BCU on the drivers side
