what concept is linked to globalisation?

A

TIME-SPACE COMPRESSION:
- idea that the world is SHRINKING because of its growing INTERCONNECTEDNESS, as space is no longer a barrier it once was to FLOWS OF CAPITAL, GOODS, PEOPLE AND INFORMATION, AND COMMUNICATION
this leads to CLONE TOWNS/ eroded place identity/ PLACELESSNESS
- advancements in TECHNOLOGY and COMMUNICATION have reduced PERCEIVED DISTANCE between places, enabling faster exchange of ideas/ goods/ people/ capital etc across space

informal reps

A

can be created through the media but may each be shaped by personal experiences/ different perceptions
- SUBJECTIVE and QUALITATIVE data
- crime TV show may rep place negatively as unsafe
- photograph may rep photographer’s personal perception/ not representative of whole area as only shows small section
- however does offer a VISUAL REP which formal reps do not offer
