Anticoagulant.

Inactivates clotting factors IIa (thrombin) and Xa by binding to antithrombin III.

Metabolised by the liver, excreted by the kidneys.

1. Known allergy or hypersensitivity
2. Active bleeding (exc. menses)
3. Oral anticoagulants
4. Bleeding disorders
5. Hx of heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia (HIT)
6. Severe hepatic impairment/disease inc. oesophageal varices.
7. Recent trauma or surgery <3wks

3. Hyperkalaemia

2. If time to PCI >1hr, pt will require rpt doses due to half-life of 60mins
