1
Q

microbial ecology

A
  • study of interactions of microorganisms with their environment with each other and with other organisms
  • microbes live in diverse environments usually with other organisms
  • their abundance and distribution is affected by the environment and in turn they also impact the environment

Q

how do microbes interact with their environment

A
  • two component regulatory systems mediate physiological changes in response to environmental changes
  • taxes : sensing environmental conditions and moving towards or away from attractants and repellants ex. chemotaxis, phototaxis, magnetotaxis
  • endospore formation allow microbes to survive unfavorable conditions and persist until better conditions prevail
  • quoram sensing: intracellular communication between microbes that enable cells to detect things like cell density and flow conditions to manage and coordinate group behaviors
