  • illegal immigration is common from mexico, USA have to house people whilst processing them, leads to overpopulation. - strain on healthcare if brung over diseases
  • immagrent populations are concentrated = water strain
  • 80% of immagrentts live in border states = increasing drug trade, banned subastances into usa.

  • migration in Thailand = Remmitances back to LAOS - good as 22% live below poverty line
  • political stability = war 200 years ago - now both apart of ASEAN and Asian investment bank
  • increasing border patrol mean less people have to be protected and intergrated back into life. educate people so that they can travel legally and send remittances
  • migration coridoor = creates political alliance due to inter dependance = trade oppotunities
  • remittances, from eg people going to portugal, sending money back to family.
  • skills and knowlege in returning migrants are useful

Migration challenges

  • Skilled workers leaving to carpentry and mechanic jobs in Thailand, cuz of droughts in Laos, less agriculture work . Laos is 5th worst country for brain drain
  • 90% of trafficking from Laos is to Thailand - bad as Laos has to spend more money on prevention, protection and prosecution
  • many females leaving for higher wages, however laos majorly relys on the garment sector
