Q

Radom Sampling

A
  • Eveyone in target pop has a chance to be picked
  • Adv: can get the perfect sample that removes bias
  • Limitations: rare (hard to get a population list)
  • method: computer generated or names from a hat

Q

Systematic Sampling

A
  • Selecting participants at set points on a list
  • Adv: helps to get a representative sample from each group
  • Limits: rare, hard to get a population list
  • method: eg choose every 10th person

Q

Opportunity

A
  • whoever is able and willing to take park is chosen
  • Adv: easy and practicle
  • Limit: likely to produce a biased result
  • method: ask family, friends, ppl know etc

Q

Stratified

A
  • sample contains proportional charaictistics of population
  • adv: avoids researcher bias and is representative and generalisable
  • limit: sub groups strata cannot reflect all the ways ppl differ
  • Method: identify people that make up the pop and turn into proportions, make sure the sample contains the randomly selected proportional strata

Q

Volunteer

A
  • participants volenter to take part
  • adv: quick and easy and the sample are more motivated
  • limit: underrepresentitve, volunteer bias
  • method: adervertise for study and get volunteers
