The hero
Usually an older child in the home. They cope by stepping up their responsibilities – cooking, house, cleaning, etc. – seeking perfection, staying busy. By taking on too much, they may experience, extreme stress and anxiety.
The scapegoat
Often gets blamed for family issues. Act out in negative ways as a result of household chaos. Draw attention away from the real problem. Eventually, unable to manage their own anger – may act out via avoidance behaviors.
The lost child
Cope through isolation. Typically one of the younger kids in the family. Quiet and reserved – careful not to cause problems or draw attention to themselves.
The mascot
 Chooses humor as coping mechanism, tries to balance the stresses of household by bringing comfort and relief. Often the youngest sibling. They are fragile, vulnerable – and desperate for the approval of others. Clownish behavior is a way to not feel pain and fear. Often goes up to self medicate, perpetuating the cycle of addiction
