What is the Hong Kong Convention?
Ensures ships are designed in a way that they can effectively recycled. Including standards to improve recycling facilities health and safety as well as pollution prevention.
Ships must have an Inventory of Hazardous substances and only recycle at approved facilities
Facility must have a ship recycling plan
International ship ready for recycling Certificate issued by administration after final survey

What is the MLC?
Maritime Labour Convention sets out the minimum standard of onboard conditions and crew welfare for sea farers including hours of rest, minimum age, employment agreements, food, repatriation. it has two aims, to protect the seafarers on ships and to establish a level playing field for companies for working and living conditions
