1
Q

What are the 3 different types of polymorphisms?

A

Base substitutions, such as

restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLPs) or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)

or

transposable element (a piece of DNA that can move to different places in a genome, such as Alu)

Q

How can the presence or absence of Alu at PV92 be detected?

A

PCR, which uses forward and reverse primers that bind sequences flanking the locus

amplifies the DNA segments producing DNA fragments of different lengths for each allele. 416 bp if Alu is absent, 731 bp if Alu is present
