Q

Experiment

A
  • Goal is to test a hypothesis and determine a causation/cause and effect relationship between an IV (manipulated) and DV
  • IV and DV must be operationalized (clearly state what and how they’re being measured)
  • Methodology/procedure must be standardized so it is replicable
  • Lab: in a laboratory environment, so confounding variables are under control and minimized (so more validity, but usually less ecological validity)
  • Field: carried out in a natural environment (more extraneous variables)

Q

Survey/questionnaire

A
  • Can get large and diverse sample (cross cultural comparisons)
  • Standardized questions to collect quantitative data and make it easier to analyze
  • Usually quantitative (but can be qualitative)
  • Relies on self-reported data (low validity)
