Experimental Design Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

Explain independent measure ?

A

Recruit a group of participants
Divide them into two groups
The first group does the experimental task with the IV set for condition 1
Then the second group does the experimental task without the IV set for condition 2
Measure the DV for each group and compare the results for the two groups

Q

Explain the repeated measure?

A

Recruit a group of participants
Group does the task without the IV for condition 1 and then the same group repeats the experimental task without the IV et for condition 2
Data shall then be compared

Q

What is matched participants?

A

Recruit a group of people
Find out what sort of people you have in group
Recruit another group that matches the participants one for one
And treat the experiments a independent measures

Q

What is strength for independent group?

A

Order effects are not a problem
Participants are also less likely to guess what the aim is

Q

What is a weakness of repeated measure?

A

Each participant has to do at least two tasks which gives them the time to acknowledge this fake situation and figure out the aim of the investigation
Order effects: A confounding variable arising from the order in which conditions are presented (boredom effect)

Q

Explain what is meant by counterbalancing?

A

An attempt to control the effects of order in repeated measure design
So half the participants will experiment the conditions in one order and the other in another order.
