1
Q

What are the 7 research methods?

A

1) Experimental
2) Observational
3) Correlational
4) Case Study
5) Meta Analysis
6) Longitudinal
7) Cross Sectional
(First 4 are the main ones to worry about)

2
Q

Describe experimental methods?

A

controlled environment (experimental and control groups), a treatment is given (IV) to see the effects (DV)

3
Q

Describe correlational methods?

A

measures a relationship between variables, no cause and effect, measured through observation, survey, case study, and meta analysis

4
Q

Describe observational methods?

A

gathering information by watching participants and quantifying a factor (usually wanting it to be naturalistic)

5
Q

Describe case study methods

A

very detailed investigations of an individual or small group of people, usually regarding an unusual phenomenon or biographical event of interest to a research field.

Q

What is operational definition?

A

a measurement of your variable (find how they quantify the variable in the study – use evidence, don’t “make one up).
Define it w/o bias

Q

What is IV? DC? Confounding variable?

A

IV: What’s changing
DV: What’s being measured (effect)
CV: other factors that affect DV besides IV

16
Q

What is standard deviation?

A

A measure of variance between scores

17
Q

What’s skewness?

A

asymmetry of distribution, follow the tail negative(and few scores pull them down to the left) or positive(a few scores pull the average up to the right).

18
Q

What is statistical significance?

A

Is it due to chance? More than 5% is chance

19
Q

What is correlational coefficients?

A

Pearson r, closest to 1 is strongest
shows the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables
