Disengagement shall be considered when all following circumstances met:
a. Individual suicidal, threatening suicide, or experiencing mental health crisis & poses imminent danger to themselves;
b. Individual is w/in their own residence;
c. Individual hasn’t committed any crime; &
d. Individual isn’t able to physically harm anyone but themselves (i.e., no hostages, individual is alone).
Disengagement requires approval by on-scene ___ or higher level authority.

Three-Tier Model for managing encounters w/ mentally ill has been implemented w/ following training initiatives:
a. Tier 1: All deputy sheriff trainees, sworn law enforcement, & civilian support personnel will receive 8 hour mandatory MEMI training. In addition, sheriff deputy trainees receive 2 hours of “Community Policing” training during sheriff deputy academy curriculum.
b. Tier 2: Deputy Sheriff’s & supervisors from rank of Lieutenant down, will attend mandatory CIT Training.
c. Tier 3: All SRT negotiators are specially trained in dealing w/ extremely volatile situations, including handling of mentally ill persons.

Court-Ordered Evaluation:
Person who meets criteria for involuntary exam may be ordered to go to a receiving facility for eval. Court-ordered eval may be initiated by any person who files w/ court a Petition for Involuntary Exam on Ex-Parte Order executed under oath alleging that a person in County meets criteria for a court-ordered eval. Petition must be accompanied by certificate of a physician stating they have examined patient w/in preceding ___ days & criteria for involuntary exam are met.
Order for evaluation: After a hearing or, if hearing waived, after review of all evidence, if judge is satisfied that immediate eval is necessary, they shall issue an Order for Eval to any LEO to deliver patient to receiving facility for eval. If judge is satisfied that eval is necessary, but patient need not be hospitalized immediately for their own safety or that of others, judge may order patient to appear at designated receiving facility at specified time w/in ___ days. If patient fails to appear at specified time, order of court, countersigned by administrator of facility to show person didn’t appear as ordered, shall authorize & direct any LEO to take person into custody & deliver them to specified receiving facility.
