PSYC1200 > CHAPTER 4.14: Perceptual Constancy > Flashcards
what is perceptual constancy?
ability to perceive objects as having same shape size and colour despite changes in perspective, viewing angle or lighting
size constancy relies on what to make perceptual corrects to an image of lets say three people in a row with the person in the front being closest to camera and person in back being furthest.
other depth cues! we wont assume that the last person is very small despite them taking up a small amount of space in the picture
describe the ames room
trapezoidal room with elevated floor on one side so person on that side looks huge, and on the other side, more distant to a viewer in a specific peephole than the first individual, a person that looks smaller and is not on an elevated floor.
but to the observer it looks like a normal room and the first person looks huge while the other looks tiny!
