PSYC1200 > CHAPTER 6.4: Higher Order Classical Conditioning > Flashcards
what is higher order classical conditioning
the creation of associations between multiple stimuli - when a conditioned stimulus acts as if it were an unconditioned stimulus
describe the association of a light to salivation
when pairing meat with metronome sound, the metronome sound is a conditioned stimulus as the dog will salivate
the metronome sound can then act as an unconditioned stimulus when presented at the same time as a red light and the dog starts salivating with just the red light
what the grandma example
so when ur born grandma is neutral stimulus but then she does stuff like make u cookies (UCS) which will give u the UCR of happy feelings. over time you will be happy just so see ur grandma so she is a CS which gives u the CR to be happy
lets say ur grandma wears perfume every time u see her. when u smell that perfume (CS) anywhere else you will have the CR of happy feelings bc it is associated w ur grandma
