A

give an example of grouping

A

ex. seeing a bunch of black and white blobs and your brain is grouping them together to see maybe a tree as part of a whole image

A

seeing two identical looking buildings and knowing that they are still two different buildings

whats is the figure ground principle? give an example

A

our brain wants to differentiate the background and foreground. objects in our env’t want to stand out against background.

ex. those images where the front looks like one thing and the back looks like another

what is good continuation? give an example

A

idea that objects that are partially covered by other things are seen as continuing behind those objects.

ex. olympic rings

what is proximity? give an example.

A

our brain groups things that are close together. perceived as belonging together.

ex. if 9 small cubes are presented as far away from e/o they are seen as 9 separate objects, but if you organize them into a cube of its own, perceived as just the larger cube

what is similarity? give an example.

A

objects of similar shape, size and colours “belong” together.

ex. san siro fan project when each individual wore a different coloured shirt to make the union jack flag. they weren’t perceived as separate colours but rather as the flag

what is closure? give an example

A

our brain’s tendency to fill in the gaps of an image.

ex. WWF panda logo, even tho not fully drawn out we can still tell its a panda
