what is multimodal integration?

A

combining of sensations from different modalities (touch, smell, sound, etc.) into single integrated perception

multimodal games integration is dependent on what 2 factors? describe them. give an example

A

spatial and temporal association.

spatial - things that happen in the same spot are more likely to get associated

temporal - things that happen at the same time are more likely to get associated

ex. if i hear a meow and a cat opens mouth at same time i assume that the cat meowed

what is the mcgurk effect? what does this show?

A

when the audio “baba” is played but a video showing lips going “gaga” is played at the same time, we get this perception of someone saying the word “dada”

shows that brain is constantly merging stimuli from different senses together
