What is chromogenic agar?
Chromogenic agar is a differential and selective media which is mainly used to identify different bacteria based on the colour of the colony they produce when incubated.
What is the basis of chromogenic agar?
The basis of chromogenic agar is that bacteria produce unique enzymes that will cleave the substrate, breaking the linkage between the target-specific organic compound and the chromophore. Depending on where the substrate is cleaved, a different colour is produced.
