What is EMB agar?
EMB agar is a differential and selective media which is mainly used to identify gram-negative bacteria that can utilise lactose.
What is the basis of EMB agar?
The basis of EMB agar is that the use of eosin and methylene blue inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria whilst also acting as pH indicators so when lactose is fermented by gram-negative bacteria, the media changes to a green or purple colour.
