Anaplasia
Benign
A neoplasm that contains well-differentiated cells that are clustered together in a single mass
Malignant
A neoplasm that contains cells with less differentiation and have the ability to metastasize
Metastasis
The transfer or spread of cancer cells from one site to another (distant sites)
stage 0 (in situ) cancer
indicates that the cancer is
where it started (in situ) and hasn’t spread to surrounding tissue
stage I (Early Stage)
the cancer is small and
hasn’t spread to lymph nodes or distant sites
stage II & III (Locally Advanced)
the cancer has grown, and may have spread to nearby tissues or lymph node
stage IV (Metastatic)
The cancer has spread from where it started to at least one other body organ
Grade 1
Cancer cells that resemble normal cells and aren’t growing rapidly
Grade 2
Cancer cells that don’t look like normal cells and are growing faster than normal cells
Grade 3
Cancer cells that look abnormal and may grow or spread more aggressively
