(11 cards)

1

7
Q

High Space Shock

A
  • Relative Hypovolemia
  • Vasodilatory Shock
  • Interruption of sympathetic nervous system
  • Loss of normal vasoconstriction; vascular space becomes too large

Q

Septic Shock

A
  • Result of widespread infection
  • Complex interactions between pathogen and body’s defense systems
  • Uncontrolled and unregulated inflammatory-immune response

Q

Neurogenic Shock

A
  • Described as decreased sympathetic control of blood vessel tone due to a
defect in the vasomotor center in the brain stem.
  • No catecholamine release (epinephrine & norepinephrine)
  • Most common cause is spinal cord injury

Q

Anaphylactic Shock

A
  • Severe systemic allergic reaction
  • Results from immune reaction in which vasodilator substances (histamine) are released into the blood

Q

Cardiogenic or Obstructive Shock

A

Any traumatic or medical condition that slows or prevents the venous return of blood can cause shock by lowering cardiac output ie.tamponade, tension pneumo
