What is the purpose or the RN system?
Provides assured cooling during normal and emergency conditions for all heat loads in the Auxiliary and Reactor Building except for the ice condenser (NF) system
RN supplies assured makeup to which systems?
NW
CA
KF
KC
How is RN aligned to the NW surge chamber?
Automatically following an St signal and a Low-Low level or Low-Low pressure in the NW surge tank.
How is RN aligned to the KF system?
Manually by procedure
How is RN aligned to the KC system?
Manually by procedure
How is RN aligned to the CA system?
Automatically after a CA AutoStart and a low suction condition exist, and CA valve control has not been reset.
Where can the RN pits get water from?
-Lake Wylie
-SNSWP (standby Nuclear Service Water Pond)
What is the Ultimate Heat Sink for the RN system?
SNSWP
Per LCO 3.7.9 Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond (SNSWP) at what level does the SNSWP become inoperable?
< than or equal to 571 ft mean sea level
What is the mode of applicability for LCO 3.7.9 Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond (SNSWP)?
MODES 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Per LCO 3.7.9 Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond (SNSWP) at what temperature does the SNSWP become inoperable?
less than or equal to 95 degrees at an elevation of 568 ft.
**Only required to be performed during the months of July,
August, and September.
Per SLC 16.9-14 (Lake Wylie Water Temperature) at what Lake Wylie temperature are the required actions entered when RN is aligned to Lake Wylie?
> than 95.5 degrees.
Per SLC 16.9-14 (Lake Wylie Water Temperature) what are the required actions when RN is aligned to Lake Wylie and Lake Wylie is > 95.5 degrees?
Immediately align at least one NSWS loop to the Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond (SNSWP).
**Only required to be performed during July, August, and
September while the NSWS is aligned to Lake Wylie
What will automatically start an RN pump?
-Safety Injection (Ss) on either Unit starts all 4 RN pumps.
-Either Unit Train related Blackout starts the associated train RN pumps (i.e. A Unit 1 Train A Blackout signal starts the 1A and 2A RN Pumps.)
-Emergency Low Level in Pit A or Pit B starts all 4 RN pumps. Pumps can be stopped at any time after the Emergency low level occurs
What is the maximum RN pump flow?
25,800 gpm
**During pump manipulations, this max flow rate may be exceeded until the RN System stabilizes
What is the minimum RN pump flow for continuous operation?
8600 gpm
What is the lowest flow for an RN pump and how long can it operate there?
4000 gpm
*** Flowrates between 4000 gpm and 8600 gpm are allowable for up to 2 hours in a 10 hour period
Per limits and precautions op OP/0/A/6400/006 C (Nuclear Service Water System) where is it preferred that RN flow be maintained at?
Greater than or equal to 10,000 gpm
The RN outlet flow through the idle KC Heat Exchanger is controlled to maintain
If the KC HX OTLT Mode switch is in the “Mini Flow” position, what RN flow does RN-291/RN-351 tried to maintain?
Approximately 19,000 gpm for each operating RN pump
Per limits and precautions op OP/0/A/6400/006 C (Nuclear Service Water System) what sequence is recommend to relieve an RN Pump low flow condition?
What valves will automatically open when an RN pump is started and close when the RN pump is secured?
-The RN Pumps’ Cooler Inlet Isolation valves (RN-11A/RN-20B)
-The RN Pumps’ Discharge valves (RN-28A /RN-38B)
What is the limit for RN flow through an NS HX and what is the reason for the limit?
Less than or equal to 4650 gpm to prevent flow induced vibration problems in the NS Hxs
What signals will close the pumphouse isolation valves from Lake Wylie (1RN-1 A and 1RN-2B (Pit A) and 1RN-5A and 1RN-6B (Pit B))?
-Train A or Train B Emergency Low Pit Level (557.5 ft)
-Unit 1 ASP to LOCAL control (train-related): All 4 valves are affected by transfer of Unit 1 ASPs. 1RN-1A and 1RN-6B require train-related RN pump running in order to CLOSE valve on transfer.
What signals will open the pumphouse isolation valves from the SNSWP (1RN-3A (A Pit) and 1RN-4B (B Pit))?
-Train A or Train B Pit Emergency Low Pit Level (557.5 ft)
-Unit 1 Train-related ASP to LOCAL control: Both valves are affected by transfer of Unit 1 ASPs. Train-related RN Pump must be running in order to open valve on transfer.
