What are some side effects and considerations of Pituitary Drugs

A

BBW: hyponatremia
- Headaches, nausea, Abd cramps
Considerations:
- Monitor serum Na and watch for signs of water intoxication
- Don’t give more then every 48 hrs

  • Replaces the missing T4 (body changes it to T3)

    Considerations:
  • Administer first thing in morning on empty stomach
  • Monitor for cardiac problems

What are some side effects and considerations of Antithyroid Medications

A

SE: hypothyroidism, agranulocytosis, liver toxicity and rash
Considerations: Fetal adverse effects, not for pregnant people, report fevers and liver diseases, monitor WBC count and liver function

  • Hydrocortisone
  • Identical to the hormone cortisol which mimics endogenous corticosteroids

What are some side effects and considerations of Corticosteroids

A

SE: Hypernatremia and fluid overload, insomnia, increased appetite and mood changes
Considerations: Admin oral forms with food and in the morning, watch for Cushings
