Q

What is an Aneurysm?
S&S?

A
  • Abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel, due to weakening of the vessel wall

Q

What is Aortic Dissection?
S&S?

A

A tear in the inner layer of the aorta, causing blood to flow between the layers of the wall of the aorta, leading to separation and rupture
- Stroke, death, severe chest/back pain, hypertension, pulse deficits

Q

What is Stable Angina?
S&S?

A
  • Occurs when the heart muscle doesn’t get as much blood as it needs due to narrowed coronary arteries
  • Progression to unstable angina, MI, chest pain or discomfort

15
Q

What is Unstable Angina?
S&S?

A
  • Condition where the heart doesn’t get enough blood flow and O2, potentially due to ruptured plaques and blood clots, chest pain that is unpredictable
  • MI, arrhythmias, death, heart failure, chest pain at rest, new onset or worsening angina not relieved by nitroglycerin

16
Q

What is the treatment for Unstable Angina

A

Nirates, BBs, anti-platelet agents, anticoagulants, possible PCI

17
Q

What is an NSTEMI?
S&S?

A
  • Type of heart attack where a coronary artery is partially blocked, causing a decrease in O2 rich blood to heart myo
  • heart failure, MI, death, chest pain, SOB, sweating, nausea
18
Q

What is the treatment for an NSTEMI

A

Antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, BBs, statins, PCI or CABG

19
Q

What is a STEMI?
S&S?

A

Severe heart attack caused by a complete blockage of a coronary artery leading to significant damage to the heart myo
- Severe CP, SOB, sweating, nausea, ST elevation, heart failure, cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, death

20
Q

What is the treatment for a STEMI

A

Thrombolytics, anti-platelet agents, anticoagulants, BBs, statins, emergency PCI or CABG

21
Q

What is Endocarditis?
S&S?

A
  • inflammation of the inner lining of the heart chambers and valves, usually caused by bacteria
  • heart failure, stroke, emboli, valve, fever, heart murmur, Osler nodes
22
Q

What is the treatment for Endocarditis

A

IV antibiotics, possible surgical valve repair or replacement

23
Q

What is Myocarditis?
S&S?

A
  • Inflammation of heart muscle, often caused by viral infection, leading to impaired heart function
  • heart failure, arrythmias, cardiogenic shock, sudden death, chest pain, fatigue, SOB, palpitations
24
Q

What is the treatment for Myocarditis

A

Anti-inflmmatory agents, immunosuppressive therapy, supportive care for heart failure

25
What is the treatment for Pericarditis
Pain relief from sitting up/leaning forward, NSAIDs, colchicine, corticosteroids,
26
What is Pericarditis? S&S?
Inflammation of the pericardium, leading to chest pain and fluid accumulation - Pericardial effusion, cardiac tamponade, constructive pericarditis, sharp chest pain, pericardial friction rub
27
What is Heart failure? S&S?
- Heart is not strong enough to pump the blood, so the blood backs up and the body does not get the O2 and nutrients that it needs - MI, Cardiac arrest, Edema, SOB, fatigue, angina, JVD, Hepatojugular reflux, lung crackles
28
What is the treatment for Heart failure
ACEi, ARBs, aldosterone antagonists, diuretics
